India – Day 22 – Jaipur

Today: 30 km
Total: 3.358 km
36 degrees Celsius and sunny

Our visit to Jaipur is too short, as our entire visit to India and any holiday. No way to see all highlights. So we selected the Old City (Pink City) walk for the morning/early afternoon and Amber Fort for the afternoon/evening.

Jaipur is know as the Pink City, because in the old city center all buildings are painted pink. Jodhpur (which we had to skip) as the opposite, the Blue City. Our walk through the old city leads us through 1.537.308 bazaar shops. But we also visited some other types of highlights.

Hawa Mahal is the best known building in Jaipur. It was built in 1799 by a Maharaja to enable the women in the royal house to view the city life.

Jantar Mantar is some old guys collection of extremely huge observatory tools.

Amber Fort is one of the three important forts around Jaipur and the best conserved or recovered. We visited the fort during daylight. It has a maze of small corridors, rooms, stairs and balconies, perfectly suitable for laser gaming. The views over the city are filled with smog. The old walls protecting the city go on beyond sight.

In the evening there was a light show on the fort, explaining the history of the fort and Indian history, with a high focus on Rajasthan. A nice end of a very touristic day.
